Ti Estin. It means:
1. ’What it is’ in Greek. Pertinent to us because we are both interested in knowing what it is, in the philosophical sense. We typically approach this question from an Aristotelian or Scholastic standpoint.
It could also mean:
2. ‘Where it’s at.’ In this case, it’s talking about our brilliant musings.
Why the title? Great question. Originally we wanted to call the blog ‘Philosophia me servat’ (philosophy saves me), with nods to our admiration of Boethius’s The Consolation of Philosophy. However, if ‘saves’ was taken in a salvific sense, then we’d be committing blasphemy (How does one committ blasphemy by the way…?). Another reason we decided against philosophia me servat was that the initials would have been P.M.S. So Ti Estin it is.
Ti Estin is basically a place for us to get various thoughts we have thought and topics we have written about out of our minds and off our harddrives- and into the blogdom. It’s mostly thoughts, afterthoughts, and musings on a variety of topics related to what we our studying.
Ti Estin or Te Estin. that is the question?? Quit typing words wrong, you’ll make us look silly . . . Wait . . . that wasn’t very charitable. I am sure that you meant to type “Ti Estin.” I guess I should encourage you more and affirm your ideas. Sorry.
What are you talking about? It said ‘Ti Estin’ all along. Just look again.
(I swear I didn’t edit it… really I do)
